Radiophonic Love on a Friday - "Bonger" for Sale and the Quest for more "Oramics"!

Sent to me last night by Tim Love Lee was this delicious (and heartbreaking) link to a current eBay auction - up for grabs is a lovely piece of gear "rescued from a BBC Studio", the "Bonger"

Might this have been a piece used by Delia Derbyshire herself? I'm not wildly knowledgable about the lesser publicized pieces of gear they may have used, so if anyone knows anything about this, do tell! I'm assuming it was used by the Radiophonic Workshop...

Here's a bit about it on MatrixSynth.

Contact the seller, Tom Goldsmith from  HiFiSupply.co.uk  here via the auction.

As we're on the subject of things lovely and Radiophonic, we will be traveling to the UK in a few days and will be nestled there for a month. Perhaps we'll visit a few Radiophonic spots as well as a quest to learn more about the wonderful Daphne Oram:

...and the gear....and Ms. Derbyshire....

If you have any Radiophonic Workshop goodness you'd like to share with us, please do! It makes the world spin so sweetly.

Polly Scattergood Releases 'Bunny Club EP' Including Tara's Analog Suicide Remix of "Nitrogen Pink"!

This year, I have had the lovely opportunity to remix some of my favorite artists, including Bat For Lashes, Tori Amos and of course, the lovely Polly Scattergood!
Today in the UK (and November 17th in the USA) , she has released the 'Bunny Club EP' , which contains the following (of which her acoustic demos are particularly cool!) :

1. Bunny Club (The Chatterleys Single Mix)
2. Unforgiving Arms (Single Edit)
3. Nitrogen Pink (Tara Busch's Analog Suicide Mix)
4. Please Don't Touch (Acoustic Demo)
5. Nitrogen Pink (Acoustic Demo)

Download it here.

I remember 'Nitrogen Pink ' was the first song I heard by Polly, and I was particularly  stunned & stirred to joy by the lyrics and her art of unraveling a composition into such beautiful, teetering chaos....Produced by Simon Fisher Turner, 'Nitrogen Pink' is full of lovely stems to play with;  the swirling , snarling bleeps and monsterous fuzz of the Minimoog being a particular sonic treat to play with.

For the remix, I saught to wrap Polly's vocal, (which gradually unravels in the original) in a sweet, snarly cloak of analogue grit, fizz, blip and glimmer, then perhaps drag it by its wings through a forest suitable for a Brothers Grimm fairy tale....with heavy, sleazy drums to anchor beneath (pardon the 'Tara-speak'). Hopefully tasty!

So....

Back to Polly's EP, I was curious as to the story behind the song "Bunny Club". I loved the engaging lyrics full of childlike melancholy in the sleazy dreaminess of a nightclub...disturbing and sweet! As the story goes in Polly's words:

"...Bunny Club is one of my older songs, I wrote it around the same time as Nitrogen Pink, when I was living in South London....
I decided in the end that the message of Bunny Club was in the lyrics, I wanted the vocals to be up front and powerful. It is a song that I feel when played live invites people in, they can take as much or as little of it as they want, some people listen intently, other people dance to it, for that reason its one of my favorites to play live...."

Be sure to also pop over to Polly's Myspace blog - she is currently doing a very cool 'cassette giveaway' - the cassette contains the album version of "Bunny Club" and the B Side is my Analog Suicide Mix of Nitrogen Pink!

Pop over here to scoop up your "Bunny Club EP" ! May the sweet sounds make your Monday....Also - stay tuned for more remix news!

Below: Here's live (audio) footage of Polly's lovely version of 'Puff the Magic Dragon"...ah!
